PCCT conducts health and safety seminar, July 7

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce-Toronto (PCCT) will conduct anew another continuing education program for its members by presenting part 2 of its workplace health and safety seminar, Monday, July 7, 6 to 9 PM, at the Golden Valley Banquet Hall on Principal Road in Scarborough.

PCCT president Rafael Nebres said the seminar likewise is in support to the Ontario government’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Board’s five-year strategic plan on workplace health and safety, dubbed as “The Road to Zero”.

Nebres urges members to avail of this seminar offered by their business organization at no cost to members, stressing the benefit of increased productivity for their companies resulting from a safe workplace.

Ace Alvarez, vice president for general public relations of the PCCT, said seminars of this kind taken elsewhere could cost a participant a minimum of $1,250. hence, members must not waste to avail themselves of this opportunity at no cost.

Alvarez, who is a newsman, said that not a day passes by without a news dispatch  that a company was fined for an injury sustained by an employee at the workplace. He pointed out that courts imposed hefty penalties on companies, which usually range from $50,000 to six-figure amounts.

Oswald Tugadi, VP for membership, said the seminar is likewise open to non-PCCT members at a very minimal cost.

The seminar will be facilitated by Norm Kramer, a consultant with the Ontario Service Safety Alliance (OSSA) – a PCCT partner in the delivery of continuing studies program for its members.
